Mold Design & Repair of a Truck Bed Bolt Cover for the Automotive Industry
A customer in the automotive industry approached Diamond Tool & Mold to evaluate an existing mold that was showing significant wear and had become unusable for production. Used in the fabrication of truck bed bolt covers, we engineered design modifications and made the repairs to restore the mold to production status, where it would provide many more years of continued service.
Our expert craftsmen used a variety of materials, including 4130 pre-hardened steel for the base, #7 steel for the core, and H13 tool steel for the cavity. To execute the modifications and replace completely worn parts, we utilized a variety of CNC and EDM machining equipment and techniques. Additional operations consisted of heat treating to add strength and grinding the core to a standard finish and the cavity with a textured finish. We fitted the components of this 24 x 36 assembly, and then produced sample parts to validate the integrity of the restored mold.
Our ability to tune up and rejuvenate this mold enabled the customer to save the significant expense of new tooling. If you have a mold that is obsolete, worn, or not in service, contact us for an evaluation, our design and repair experts may be able to give it a whole new life.
